Alex Pruner
A 30-year resident of Houston, Alex (born 1962, NYC) is an emerging contemporary-surrealist painter. Her highly successful inaugural solo show, “Office Ethos”, was held in 2025 (Fern’s Gallop Gallery). Her work draws upon her 40+ year corporate career, incorporating office imagery -- including neckties, paperclips and interoffice envelopes -- that harken the human experience: from the joy of creative sparks, to the anguish of monotony, to the thrill of victory. For the Kelly Campbell Collection, her canvas mural is entitled “The Elements of Creation,” incorporating imagery from both nature and the office.
As a child, Alex took courses at The Art Students’ League of New York when she spent the summers in Manhattan with her father, Fred Garbers, who was an accomplished abstract expressionist. Rather than immediately following in her father’s footsteps, in college at Brown University Alex took a sharp turn and studied Economics instead. Post graduation she pursued a career in the finance and energy industries, culminating with her co-founding the Houston-headquartered investment bank Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co. in 2007.
